ISDN has been a viable choice for most business for a long time – from large corporations to small businesses – in order to ensure business grade telephony. However, in the recent past, due to its lack of flexibility, inability to deliver high-quality video and higher prices – is paving the way for SIP. The hype about SIP has been real as a growing number of businesses are making the switch to VoIP services for their business communication needs over the last few years.Following are some of the things to know about while making the shift from ISDN to SIP.

1. Scoping the Job

First and foremost, find out what the move to SIP will be like for your business. It could be a complete switch in one go, or it could be a phased branch to branch move. ISDN and SIP can work alongside each other, so the switch doesn’t require putting off one system while turning the other one on. Estimate the cost required to make the move in this step.

2. Business Requirements

The next step in the process to make the switch is defining your business requirements. It is important to know how many phone numbers your business has, are the incoming calls being directed on other line or queued if the line is busy and the kind of voicemail system the business needs. Clearly knowing all these requirements will make the implementation of SIP more fruitful later on.

3. Hardware Requirements

Next, determine the kind of equipment and hardware that will be needed based on the above steps. Yes, analog phones can be used with SIP, but switching to IP phones will allow the business to take advantage of VoIP features. Note that the bandwidth requirement will increase by switching over to SIP,. Thus, investing in bandwidth will ensure call quality.

4. Reliable SIP Provider

Now when you have all the business and hardware requirements with you, the next step in the process is to select a reliable SIP provider who can be a good fit for all your SIP requirements. VoIP.ms provides state-of-the-art VoIP technology, with efficient call quality and the ability to port all your current business numbers to its service. VoIP.ms empowers the business with improved business communications at a much-reduced price as compared to traditional ISDN.

5. Cancel ISDN Service

The final step of the process is to cancel your current subscription to the ISDN service. Once all of your business numbers have been switched to VoIP, the ISDN service must stop working. However, do check if your business is still getting charged by the old ISDN service provider.

If properly planned, the switch to SIP will be entirely seamless. Your business will now be able to enjoy the flexibility offered by SIP at a much lower cost than ISDN.
