1. 1974 – First VoIP Call

Yes, you heard it right. Internet had its presence in the 1970s’. In those days, the internet was known with the name of ARPANET. Back in the time, ARPANET was used mainly by the educational and military institutions to send classified information. The data packets were transmitted at the speed of 16 kb/s, in between the Information Science Institute and Lincoln Lab in December 1974.

2. Better Sound Quality

The traditional phone lines work with the range of about 300 Hz to 3400 Hz. These frequencies result in a lack of clarity and can provide confusing sounds to the human ear. VoIP provides a high definition sound quality and works in the range of 50 Hz to 7 KHz. Higher frequencies ensure that sound can be easily differentiated, which in return means clear phone conversations for your business and personal needs.

3. Reduces International Calls Cost

This is one area where VoIP has no other substitute. It reduces the international cost by as much as 90%. This ability of VoIP makes it an affordable option for many small, medium and large enterprises, who frequently make international calls. Not only it allows businesses to operate and do business overseas, but it also reduces the overhead cost for the enterprise. Who wouldn’t want to switch their communications to VoIP, and do business overseas?

4. Calls Consisted of Ads in the Early Days

Back when it started, call participants had to listen to a brief advertisement. In the 90’s, VoIP wasn’t available to a broad audience, the quality of phone calls was relatively low and wasn’t much used by the masses. Over time, as the quality of the calls improved, the ads eventually disappeared and is completely out of context now.

5. Phoneless VoIP Calls

With VoIP, you no longer need to have a traditional phone with you. You can make a phone call with your computer and tablet as well. All you need to have is a speaker and a microphone. With an internet connection, a computer and some sound equipment, you are good to go and can make calls anywhere in the world.
